1. Compliant Edge Protection
Top rail at 950–1150 mm, mid rail no gap > 470 mm, toe board minimum 150 mm high. Must withstand a 1 kN horizontal force. Timber acceptable if graded, steel preferred.
2. Openings
Every floor opening, stair void and riser is covered with a load-rated cover marked 'DO NOT REMOVE' and secured, or protected with fixed barriers. Removal only under PTW.
3. Shuttering & De-shuttering
During shutter erection and strike, edge protection may need temporary removal — a Working at Height PTW with harness anchor points is required. Never work below a shutter being struck.
4. Blockwork Scaffolding
Independent scaffolds with double guardrails, toe boards, sole boards on adequate bearing. Tagged Green by a competent scaffold inspector before use.
5. Glass Curtain Wall
External work with MEWPs or scaffold, fall arrest above 1.8 m, no lone working, weather monitoring for wind. Glass loading follows the manufacturer's rigging plan.
6. Inspection Regime
Edge protection inspected weekly and after any disturbance. Recorded in the scaffold/edge protection register. Any deficiency = red tag + immediate correction.
